Pearson’s Test of English ( PTE )

Pearson Language Tests is a unit of the Pearson PLCgroup. The tests assess and validate the English language usage of non-native speakers of English.

This test was first launched in 2009 which was accepted by nearly 6000 organisations. The test is approved for use by the UK Border Agency and the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship for visa applications. The test is read by a computer rather than a human to reduce waiting times of the results for students.

PTE Tests are often scenario based. They include PTE academic, PTE General and PTE Young learners.

PTE Academic is an innovative and engaging way to demonstrate your proficiency in English. This test is used to assess by non-native speakers of English who want to join a university level English instruction program. It tests Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, There is one multi-level test.

PTE General is designed to reward positive achievement in English language learning. The tests consist of two parts: a written paper and an interview. There are six levels of the General test. Each level is set at one of the CEFR levels.

PTE Young Learners is an international English language exam for the young aged from 7 to 12 who learn English as a foreign language. They test the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

The test will be a maximum of 3 hours long and takers can expect their results to be delivered to them, online, within 5 working days. Test scores are reported on the Global Scale of English, a standardized, numeric scale from 10 to 90 which can measure English language proficiency more precisely.

With PTE the examination dates are flexible and the results are fast. The test dates are flexible and are available 365 days a year in 150 different locations worldwide. You can schedule your test even 24 hours in advance and your result will be available within 5 business days. However, In 2013, 85% of test takers received their scores in two days.

When your scores are available, you will receive an email notification, after which you should log in to your Pearson account to view your scores and send them to institutions.

PTE scores are widely accepted in most of the countries. PTE Academic is currently recognized by around 1,010 university programs worldwide. However, you should contact the university that you applied for, to find out if they accept PTE academic and also to find out the grade they require. They are acceptable in United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc.
